Match the finish to the environment.

From a plain oiled stud for dry indoor plant to PTFE systems rated past 1,000 hours of salt spray. The bar shows corrosion protection, from mild to severe service.

  • Plain, light oil

No corrosion protection. Outdoors, red rust shows within days and threads can seize.

    Friction
    0.20
  • Zinc plated

Clear or yellow chromate. Minimal protection, mild environments only.

    Thickness
    3 to 5 µm
    Friction

  • Galvanised

Proven against weather and industrial atmospheres. Not for seawater immersion or direct chemical contact.

    Thickness

    Tip
    Lightly oil to tighten
  • Zinc nickel

High-performance electroplate for marine, industrial and offshore work. Holds up at elevated temperatures with consistent torque-tension.

    Protection
    Sacrificial
  • Moly disulphide

Grey to black over phosphate. Resists acid, alkali and solvents, with built-in anti-seize.

  • Inorganic zinc silicate

The "Esso specification". Decades of service on offshore platforms and coastal steelwork, and the primer of choice for multi-coat systems.

    Service
    Severe marine
  • Xylan® PTFE 1014 · 1070 · 1424

For total seawater immersion, constant spray or chemical exposure, and joints that must come apart again without seizing.

Torque guidance, on hand.

Pick a grade and diameter for theoretical tightening torques at 30% and 60% of yield load, straight from our product guide.

Theoretical values assuming the studs are lubricated to a friction coefficient of 0.20. For guidance only: confirm final torques with the engineer responsible for the joint. Field experience suggests clamp loads above 44% of yield can deform flanges.

Tighten in four passes

  1. 1Snug all stud bolts lightly

Always tighten in a cross pattern. Once at final torque, keep going round until the nuts stop turning, and leave at least two full threads past the nut.

Stud bolt questions.

Can you make stud bolts to my length and spec?

Yes. Our Perth and Melbourne facilities produce custom stud bolting for gas, petroleum and chemical work. Send us the diameter, length, grade, coating and quantity and we'll quote.

What certification comes with them?

All petrochemical products can be supplied with full certification covering mechanical testing and material composition, with independent third-party verification testing included in our certification packages.

Which nut goes with which stud?

B7 with A194 2H, B7M with 2HM, L7, L7M and B16 with 7L, B8 Class 2 with Grade 8, and B8M Class 2 with Grade 8M.

What thread do you supply?

Stud bolts up to and including 1" are typically UNC. Over 1" is typically 8UN. Metric diameters are available on request.

Do you supply gaskets and insulation kits too?

Yes. Spiral wound, RTJ, kammprofile, flat, metal jacketed and corrugated gaskets, flange insulation kits and Nord-Lock Superbolt tensioners, all on the same order.

Can you deliver to remote sites?
